Combat Robot






Goal number two is "battle worthy" construction. One of the keys to BioHazard's success is a bulletproof drive train that is completely housed in a square aluminum extruded tube.The one-piece extrusion (one each for the left and right drive trains), is precision CNC machined with mounting holes for all the sprockets, wheels, and motors. Each drive component is supported on both sides of the 3" x 3" square aluminum tubing to avoid "overhung" loads.
The tubing is made from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. The feather and light weight robots have frame tubes with 1/4" wall thickness and the middle and heavy weights have tubing with 3/8" wall thickness. BioHazard, (a heavy weight robot), uses 1/4" tubing but we wanted to offer an even stronger drivetrain to stand up to your most destructive opponents.
The wheel assembly is made from the popular 4" Colson Performa tire. These are machined and mated to our custom hubs, bearings, and 19-tooth Chromoly sprockets. This combination weighs in at just 1.1 pounds - including the drive sprocket! We believe that this is the lowest-cost and lightest wheel/sprocket combination available. These wheels are included in all our kits but you can also order them separately.

Electric paper airplane launcher kit




This is a fun educational aid product designed to demonstrate scientific concepts taught in school curriculum. Ready for take off! Kit contains everything you need to learn how spinning motors and plastic discs are used to launch a paper plane at up to 31 mph (50km/h). An ideal kit for exploring paper plane designs.
This kit was designed at Middlesex University by specialists who teach teachers. Each kit is thoroughly researched and encourages young people to stretch their skills and thinking. Contains Base plate with guide, Plastic discs with pulley, battery box, motors, plastic rings (grommet), plastic suction cups, sticky pads, short screws, long screw, connecting sleeves x 4, terminal block, nuts, wire and screw driver.


The single-sheet paper airplanes you made when you were a kid (or perhaps last week in your cubicle) were, well, kid stuff compared to this beefed-up paper craft, which uses an electric motor from an old pager or toy powered by a big electrolytic capacitor. Known as a "Gold Cap" and made by Panasonic, the capacitor charges from a battery pack and then metes out a steady flow of power to keep your propeller whirring for about 10 seconds--just long enough to send the flyer airborne and carry it between 30 and 100 feet. (You can also add a gearing system to squeeze out even more flight time.) We've created plans for an eAT-6 "Texan" airplane and put them here and here to get you started. Just think twice before blindly launching this one soaring over the wall of your cube.

Cardboard rocketship toy!


The PaperPod Rocket comes flat and blank, ready to be decorated by your children. Ships from the UK and is too small for adults, so I think it's a perfect candidate for a re-make. I think I can reverse-engineer this thing from the photo... Nigel's Eco Store sells other eco-friendly holiday gifts as well!

AVR Oscilloscope clock







The AVR Oscilloscope clock from Dutchtronix was covered here @ MAKE before, but I finally got around to building one - it's great. Makes an awesome clock out of an oscilloscope. Not bad for $35... Above are some pictures from the build! It's not actually supposed to work on a digital scope, so this was an experiment - and it worked!
This AVR Oscilloscope clock is available as a kit, using all through-hole components. The kit included ALL components necessary to assemble the board shown below, including a preprogrammed ATmega168 microcontroller. It does not include an oscilloscope. It also includes connectors for the Power and RS-232 headers on the board. The user can use these connectors to build the power and serial communication cables
